When AI hits a snag: what to do next

Troubleshooting tips for when AI generation doesn't go through.

Written by Vita

Even the smartest systems stumble now and then. If you suddenly run into a “Generation failed” message, don’t panic or give up on your task just yet. It’s usually just a temporary tech hiccup, not something you did wrong.

Most generation errors are short-lived and can often be fixed with a few simple steps.

Start simple: try again

Glitches often come and go on their own. Before diving into troubleshooting, give the action another shot, since whatever tripped up the AI moments ago may sail through the second time around.

Pare down your prompt

If the issue persists, take a hard look at what you asked for. Overloaded prompts, the kind that pile on instruction after instruction, tend to overwhelm the system. Strip your request down to its essentials, tighten the language, and cut anything that isn't strictly necessary. A short, focused ask will usually get you further than a sprawling one.

Double-check your inputs

Before you try again, make sure everything the AI needs, whether that's text, files, images, or other assets, has actually made it into the request. A missing or malformed input is a common, if easily overlooked, culprit.

Clean out the cache

Working from a browser? Clear out your cache and cookies, relaunch Zeely, and give the action another go. Stored data has a habit of quietly interfering with how web apps behave, and clearing it out often does the trick.

Test it in incognito

Still stuck? Open Zeely in an Incognito or Private window and repeat the action. This step helps you isolate the problem: if things run smoothly in a private window, the culprit is likely sitting in your browser's cache, cookies, or an extension.

Update or reinstall the app

If you're on mobile, head to the App Store or Google Play and check for updates, since running an outdated version can cause all sorts of unexpected hiccups. And if you're already up to date but the error keeps popping up, don't hesitate to uninstall and reinstall the app altogether. A fresh install can clear out whatever's gumming up the works.

When all else fails, reach out

If you've worked through every step above and the "AI hit a snag" situation keeps rearing its head, it's time to loop in Zeely's Support team, either through the in-app chat or by email at [email protected]. To help them get to the bottom of it quickly, be ready to share:

  1. A screenshot or screen recording of the issue as it happened

  2. A brief rundown of what you were trying to accomplish when the error struck

  3. The exact wording of the error message, if one appeared

It also helps to mention which Zeely feature you were using and whether you encountered the issue on the web or in the mobile app. The more context you provide, the faster the team can track down and fix the problem.
